A Prayer for Mission (3)

Evening Prayer

O God, you manifest in your servants the signs of your presence: Send forth upon us the Spirit of love, that in companionship with one another your abounding grace may increase among us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Provenance

This evening collect asks God, who already makes himself known through his people, to send the Spirit of love so that grace grows in shared life together. Its language echoes St Paul on the Spirit's manifestation in the church. The prayer entered Anglican worship through the 1979 American Prayer Book, drawing on a Victorian compilation of ancient liturgical texts.
