The Feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary to Elizabeth & Zechariah
On this day the Church keeps Mary's journey into the hill country of Judah to the house of Zechariah, where Elizabeth greeted her as the mother of the Lord and Mary answered with the Magnificat. Luke alone records it, and gives it no date. The feast itself is late: instituted at Prague in 1386 and extended to the whole Latin Church in 1390, kept for centuries on 2 July, and moved to 31 May in 1969.
